Joe Karnes je americký baskytarista a kontrabasista.
V letech 1994 až 1997 byl členem skupiny Imperial Drag, s níž vydal jedno studiové album. V roce 2005 se stal členem doprovodné skupiny Johna Calea, hrál v jedné písni z jeho desky Black Acetate (2005) a až do ledna 2010 jej doprovázel při koncertech (hraje na živém albu Circus Live). V roce 2010 se stal členem kapely Fitz and the Tantrums, s níž nahrál několik alb, a několik let rovněž působil ve skupinách Pedestrian a Desktop Rulers. Také pracoval jako studiový hudebník a hrál tak na albech mnoha hudebníků, mezi které patří Jesca Hoop, KT Tunstall, Lindsey Ray nebo skupina Hanson.
Jeho manželkou je televizní producentka Samantha Scharff, s níž má dceru.[1] Spolu se svým švagrem Jaredem Scharffem a Jeremym Ruzumna (klávesista Fitz and the Tantrums) působí v uskupení Queen Sixties, které se věnuje produkci a psaní hudby pro jiné interprety (například píseň „Toes“ rappera DaBabyho).[2]
Mezi své největší vzory řadil baskytaristu Jamese Jamersona.[3]
